November 15-17,2011
A three day International Conference on Social Science Methodology: A Special Reference to Social Movement was organized by Policy Discourse on Contemporary Issues on Social Exclusion and Social Inclusion (PODCISESI), a collaborative programme of CNAS and SIRF, from November 15- 17 2011 at Hotel Himalaya, Kathmandu. The objective of the conference was to understand contemporary social movement methodology and to share intercontinental social movements' tradition. The conference saw participants from around the world (The Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, China, Taiwan, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, India and Nepal). Fifteen papers were presented at the conference. The keynote speakers were Prof. T.K. Oommen (JNU, India), Bert Klandermans (VU Amsterdam University, The Netherlands) and Mario Diani (ICREA- Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain).

A one day talk programme was organized by CNAS on "Resources, Stability and State Legitimacy" on 28th July 2011. The guest speaker was Prof. Dr. Kent Hughes Butts from US Army War College. Dr. Butts spoke on the issue of resources, stability and security, explaining how resource access is related to governmental legitimacy and the steps states may take to build human security and improve state stability. Various academicians, intellectuals, professionals and students attended the programme. The lecture was followed by question-answer session.

The 40th Anniversary of CNAS was celebrated on July, 17, 2011 (Shrawan 1, 2068).The Education Minister Mr. Ganga Lal Tuladhar attended the Anniversary as a chief guest. On the occasion, Executive Director of CNAS Prof. Dr. Yagya Prasad Adhikari presented the annual progress report and details of ongoing research projects.
The programme was attended by distinguished guests from in and outside the Tribhuvan University. The Social Inclusion Resource Centre (SIRC) was also inaugurated by the Minister.
In the programme, Associate Prof. Dr. Pancha Narayan Maharjan(Pol. Science) and Associate Prof. Dr. Sushila Manandhar Fisher(Culture) were felicitate for their long contribution in the Centre. Similarly, Dr. Mrigendra Bahadur Karki, (Sociology) was awarded for his outstanding performance throughout the year. The outstanding administrative staff awards were given to Kamal Bahadur Baniya and Chudamani Baral.

Prof. Yagya Prasad Adhikari, Executive Director of CNAS, TU participated in a two days workshop on "Building a Strong Platform for Stability, Democracy and Rights" held in Denmark under the Building Stronger Universities Initiative by Universities Denmark. In the workshop,Adhikari also delivered a lecture on "Research Priorities and Research Capacity Building at CNAS".
The workshop focused on strengthening the capacity of all partner institutions in relation to research based education, research and information dissemination.

Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies (CNAS), TU and Social Inclusion Research Fund/ SNV Netherlands Development Organization(SIRF/SNV) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation to promote and implement "Policy Discourse on Contemporary Issues on Social Exclusion and Social Inclusion Programme". Through this programme of collaboration, Lecture Series on academic or contemporary national and international issues will be organized, Regular and Special Issues of "Contribution to Nepalese Studies " will be published, Social Inclusion Resource Centre (SIRC) will be established and an International Seminar on Social Science Methodology will be organized.
This collaboration will be for the period of 2 years.

Professor Yagya Prasad Adhikari, PhD, Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies (CNAS) has been appointed as a new executive Director of the CNAS in 9 March, 2008 for the term of four years. Prof. Adhikari has done his Masters degree in Political Science from TU. He had received doctoral degree on "Foreign Policy Perspective of Nepali Congress (1947-90)" from the Banaras Hindu University, Banaras, India in ….. He has published many books on Nepalese Politics and Governance and has published many research articles in different national as well as international journals. He has been associated with CNAS since 1997.
